I had this happen to myself many years ago on 11 meter CB. Never knew what the heck it was or why it happened. I was rather young at the time and the 11 year cycle was at it's good point for 11 meters so lots of skip was happening and CBs were starting to become popular again in my town. If I remember correctly I just had a cheap old 23 channel radio that I probably got from a garage sale. A small whip antenna on my houses roof and got on one of the channels and called out. Next thing I know 20 seconds later everything I said came right back into the radio almost like someone had recorded what I said and retransmitted it back to me. Talk about freaky. I really thought someone was playing games with me so I talked a few more times and same thing happened. It would repeat exactly what I said in perfect quality with just a bit of static for up to 20 seconds worth and would take about as long to be retransmitted back to me.
Well many years later I finally found out what this weird phenomena is but people still aren't exactly sure why it happens. You'd think it would take some serious TX power to get your signal to skip around the whole world and come back into your radio but this was just 4 watts AM on 11 meters!
Ham radio operators have experienced this also on the 10 meter band. It seems that around 20-30MHz is where it happens most and I am going to guess it has a roll to play with the suns 11 year cycle.
Has anyone else here experienced this or maybe have some more info on it? I feel out of all the strange things about radio this one takes the cake.
Happened to me om 11M when I was living in Winnipeg. A buddy said it was almost common there in the summer at peak cycles, but we thought it was an auroral phenomenon.
