A Fort Lauderdale man accidentally electrocuted himself yesterday while trying to set up an antenna for a pirate radio station in his backyard, police said.
Mackenson Mareus, 27, a resident of Lauderdale Lakes, was in a tree setting up the antenna at his home on the 1100 block of Northwest 18th Ct. around 11:45 a.m. when he unintentionally touched a live electrical power line.
Mareus electrocuted himself and fell from the tree. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue workers arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police said Mareus was setting up the antenna to communicate with Haiti.

Hey Void !
Interesting article but I must dismiss the content, inasmuch, as it was stated that the 27 year old man was "setting up a pirate radio station", but I suppose in one aspect it could be true. The antennas shown are amateur radio antennas, appears to be UHF and VHS yagis not what one may typically use to communicate with Haiti, especially at this point in the solar cycle ! It could have far easier accomplished by using HF.. If he was transmitting on the ham bands or elsewhere without a license, then in the true sense of the term 'pirate station' that would then be accurate.
