I ditched the second amplifier( sent back for refund chz 30 watt)and now am in the market for a new transmitter something in the 0-100 watt range, I still like the looks of the AAREFF stuff and there commitment to lp radio is commendable . I know a lot of you are using homebrew stuff but those of you that purchased your tx stuff what are you using??? I'm tired of cheaping out so I am willing to spend a lot more $$$ on some good equipment. Sixer
My experience with electronics is nothing is poof proof, I've been blowing stuff up for a long time. If it says unbreakable I consider that a challenge. Digikey challenge accepted.. Sixer
Well like I said earlier I sent all the Chinese junk back and am now without an amplifier but in the market for something big, 100 watt transmitter, no more exciter driving an amp. I still like the looks of AAREFF's stuff so I'll have to save up a little more money but I think there 100 watt stereo transmitter would make me ( and my listeners happy). I now have my new antenna up and it will handle this power easily. Hey with Christmas coming soon maybe I'll just ask for one:) and that's all I have to say on this topic... Sixer

Yeah that's a good way to go...off air if something goes POOF!
At least if its just the PA, maybe internally it might have a panic mode jumper and let it's internal exciter bypass the poofed PA..stay on the air?
A good single transmitter unit will have this. Especially if your fixing to fork out a couple grand for a nice 150 or 250 unit. The thing better have an @ss wiper and fresh replacement blades to keep that front panel nice and shiny for that kind of $$$!
I took one of those China TX's which I call a "gold brick", it is a 15 watt pos that uses the 1417 chip, ya the useless one that only has a few frequencies on the top end and low end of the band....AT THE SAME TIME!! LOL!
Anyway gutted that thing and now its a nice 25 watt CLEAN IPA! Removed everything but the driver and final sections which I reworked with better tuning stages and coupling, and reworked the low pass filter. Even draws less current and runs cooler!
It's amazing how even that crap from over there, when done right can actually work worth a &*%#.
Peace!
