As some of you may know, I have been working for some time on getting digital TV working using GNURadio and open source tools. While modulation is still a work-in-progress, everything else is done and working.
It is amazingly simple to make an ATSC (US/Canadian DTV), or DVB-T (Widely known as Freeview) compliant MPEG-Transport stream up and running with full HD! Hams and ATV types have been ahead of the game using dated and limited equipment, but with these great open source tools and tips, we could usher in a whole new era of LPTV.
The guide I am almost done with, will focus on the following.
Why Digital Television (vs. analog)
Things you will need (Software, SDR, etc)
Content! (Encoding, Do's and Dont's)
Picking a standard. (ATSC or DVB-T)
PSIP, EPG, SDT, MPEG (Final mux and transmission)
Any questions you'd like to ask either here or should be included, feel free to let me know. I'll post a URL to this guide, likely a PDF, when it is finished.
