I am working with a missionary group near Zimbabwe. Communications is a big problem, they would benefit greatly if this was better solved.... that's where I'm trying to help. Am thinking to find a good ISP in Zimbabwe, and do a microwave link from ther to the compound. At the compound, just do local WiFi.
There is little to be found on good service providers, what service providers would be compatible with a microwave link, etc. Does anyone know what service providers/companies there I should look into? Internet searching isn't getting me very far. Also, you are welcomed to critique my strrategy of getting better communications to them.
You don't mention the distance, so it's hard to say. Couldn't you just buy two high power WiFi amps and directional antennas? That would be very easy and cost effective as well.
so............for instance if you find an ISP in your country you can connect too, you can then relay the link via TDMA using a pair of UBNT links and then at the 'Missionary' end feed the link into another UBNT Access Point to distribute the WiFi. A LOT simpler than it sounds. For 10Km LOS (direct line of sight) you'll need to spend no more than $200 or so but if you've got greater distances to cover your going to need a tower or access to one and use a dish based product (yes UBNT again) for a much higher gain link.
