I would like to install a jpole antenna in a tree for more elevation, my questions are: 1. Do you think the antenna will have grounding/shorting problems due to limbs brushing against the antenna? 2. I have heard that jpoles tend to "couple" with nearby objects, does anyone think the tree would cause problems relating to this? 3. Lastly, has anyone tried hoisting a jpole into a tree? Thank you, Matt
I would make sure no branches touch the antenna itself. Maybe mount the antenna to some kind of extention to the tree, or get it high up enough that it pokes out of the tree? With low power transmitters it shouldn't be too much of an issue besides the tree blocking part of your signal path, but with higher powers I would worry about the SWR not being the best. Only trying it will let you know

Ended up putting the jpole on the roof. The tree would have had some issues that would have been hard to overcome. Thanks for the advice. I would definitely recommend the Jpole design, seems like its easy to construct and easy to tune, getting close to 1:1 SWR.
