Hi I go by the name of DJJustin and I just come onto this forum to talk about online radio, I hope this post won't be considered spam and I won't get banned, ok
SO first off I am an at home broadcaster from the city of Taylor Michigan I use ICECAST BUT? I am NOT exactly a pirate, SO mods please go easy on me. I just wanted a place online to type about online radio broadcasting period. Without getting my account banned or shutdown so a google search found this forum. Ok so hopefully? nobody considers this a spam post hopefully. I'll get straight to my point.
I am a Classic Rock radio station that is commercial free and picks up thousands of listeners a day according to my estimated status. My host says I pick up no listeners or extremely few but I think that I have some kind of host error
My Station is called "THE ANGEL CLASSIC ROCK MIX NO COMMERCIALS AND (LIVE) FROM TAYLOR MICHIGAN"

On my vary first post just for mentioning that I had my own station. I have an over 22,000 song playlist and I can offer advice to anybody willing to listen and I will also accept anybody else advice on here as well.
I play a variety of genres Including mostly Classic Rock and Metal both modern and older stuff. here is the thing though I DO HAVE AN ASCAP BLANKET LICENCE. and even though this is a pirate forum I hope I can still get along with the other members and mods of this forum.
I will admit that I recommend that we all have ASCAP licenses even though the law does not require it on online radio to or to pay any royalties. Or so I read a few years ago. BUT it's only fair in my opinion to have one because we do not own the music copyrights. and I do broadcast mostly copyrighted music, and the artist can at least get some of their royalties this way I believe.
but like I said this is a pirate forum, so I don't know if a DJ that openly admits and recommends that pirates should have a license is welcome aboard.
I do however use ICECAST and only pay $310.00 a year for my license though just so I don't get sued millions of dollars and to make life fair to the contributing artists. I KNOW I don't have to pay BUT I CHOOSE TOO OK???
like I said and to make this short I am the sole at home Broadcaster and DJ of the vary popular "THE ANGEL CLASSIC ROCK MIX" a multi genre station that has music from the 1940's onwards into some of todays mostly rock and metal and pop music.
I do talk in the form of brief automated recorded messages, that offer short musical history lessons and "I AM COMMERCIAL FREE AND SUBSCRIPTION FREE" and broadcast 24/7'

I RECOMMEND GLASSWIRE app to track down your listener that is a firewall program that I think lets you see how much data your broadcasting encoder is using through it's security section. and
I broadcast in 64k in ACC+ encoding in which uses less data for better audio quality that MP3.
I calculate 72,000 kilobytes per listener to determine how many listeners I currently have tuned in, for more than 5 seconds at that given timeframe. a 64k stream uses 72,000 kilobytes for every listener and bot tuned in minus 1 kilobyte set for the data going to my own host.
I RECOMMEND BROADCASTING WITH ACC+ encoding and in 64k with Casthost it only cost 16.50 a month for unlimited 64k streaming unlimited listeners

I just recently upgraded to Mixxx, and that player I highly recommend it, but it does lag just to warn you
