ICECAST is newer than shoutcast and both of these are frequencies that go over the Internet and than can be picked up almost everywhere in the entire world, by anybody who has an internet connection. Generally they are suppose to have a more clearer signal and better sound especially ICECAST. They are often times a cheaper alternative than spending thousands, of dollars or pounds or whatever on an antenna and a transmitter for only a limited broadcast range. I recommend braadcating in 64kbps with AAC+ encoding and with high quality recordings. CastHost is a Canadian company that only charges $16.50 per month for unlimited listeners and bandwith.
CastHost is a SUB ICECAST company, ICECAST does have it's ups and downs but it usually stays running without that many host errors. All you need for shoutcast or ICECAST setup is a PC, a broadband wired connection. encoder software, Some music or audio recordings, and a compatible player software for your encoder.
Among those things you will also need to scan your server for malware and trolling often, occasionally hackers will crash my player AND stop the music from playing or troll my playlist. when I don't keep a close eye on my station, the key witness is to setup your server to make sure you take away all or most of the holes that hackers can use to control the apps on your PC. The least remote control you have on your server the less trouble you should have when you get trolls that will shut off your music when you are not paying attention
like the station that had the demo of DJ mike llama recording playing over and over again when I saw it listed on the ICECAST now playing board.
Transmitters are fine but I think that they are bulky heavy and expensive and don't even go that far. most people use the Internet these days, FM radio is often ignored these days and just used as background noise anyway
