I just dragged out an old CB I purchased many years ago at a rummage sale and I'm not sure of the proper settings on the amp mounted to the CB. The power switch is 3-way with options of AM/OFF/SSB. A Preamp switch is either on or off. The mode switch is either PEP or RMS.The amp is labeled "MAGNUM 125" with a green face and black box and large heat sink.
I'm not too familiar with 11 meter amps but going by what you said it doesn't sound too different from any other kind of rig. Usually the preamp switch is on when using legal power CB radios with the amp but not absolutely sure on that one. Of course you would use the "AM" mode for regular CB operation or SSB when using single side band if your radio has that option when turning on your amp (the 3-way switch). This usually just switches the internal components from being linear which is needed for AM, or full peak power for SSB operation. Most amps when in the off position bypass the amp all together for using low legal power. The mode switch is probably for the meter to let you either see Peak Envelope Power (PEP) or Root mean square (RMS) power. I think that PEP is usually what you want to see on the meter when using SSB where as RMS is for measuring average power output w/o the peaks normal for AM usage. You should get on this yahoo group and ask them for more info, someone probably has a manual laying around for that amp... groups.yahoo.com/group/11meteramps/
