Basically it talks about keeping over the air TV free and tells people to ask congress to keep it free or something of that sort. Since when were they planning on making regular broadcast television cost money in the USA?!? How would they even do such a thing? As if people weren't annoyed enough when they had to get those stupid DTV boxes, now they may have to pay to watch FREE television?
I am confused as to the source of this. I seen this commercial on cable television. This sounds about as insane as the shit going on in the UK forcing people to pay for a license to watch free television.
Well if it does happen in the future here in the US, who is to say they will stop at TV? Next they may try to do this with radio!!! Pass that video above around the other forums. They want the NAB to make us pay for something that's always been free! I can't believe this.
Really strange. Even the commercial looks twisted and evil lol. Maybe I am reading into this too much but it just seemed completely out of place for a TV add.
Update: Was watching our local TV news channel and they decided to fill viewers in on the situation. The hole issue is big corporations want more spectrum to use for their crappy cellphone and wifi devices. So they are trying to get the FCC to take the spectrum used by broadcast TV back so it can be used for these new devices. Basically they want to pull the plug on broadcast TV and are trying to get the FCC to do so. Their excuse? More spectrum is needed, future devices will need more bandwidth. What bullshit.
Some idiot was talking to the news anchor saying that free TV should be taken away because in his words "that's not how the economy works, TV should cost like everything else". I felt like punching my television when he said that. Isn't that what commercials are for?
I can't believe they would even consider this, and I really hope the slimy creeps at the FCC don't dumb down to this level though it wouldn't surprise me if they did.
At first I thought the FCC would loose money if they actually decided to take the TV spectrum back, but then I realized the corporations that want to pull this off probably have enough money do get the FCC on their side. From what I read even Microsoft is even behind this wanting to use this spectrum for new wireless computing devices. We all know they have the money, and we all know the FCC doesn't listen to the people, they listen to the $.
Probably won't happen, but if it does your DTV box will make a nice paperweight.
