Anyone here have this and what all programming do you get or like? The WIKI says it's like the TV version of shortwave radio in the respect that you can watch stuff beamed down from around the world. Best of all it's free.
I was thinking with cable prices going up every year may as well try some alternatives and see what I like. The combo of OTA digital TV with those converter boxes and FTA satellite sounds pretty neat. Besides scanning the dish at some bird beyond my site in the sky to tune in stuff you can't get on any other box sounds really fun, kind of like SWLing only visual instead.
So anyone interested or already have it? Tips?
It will cost a little less than 200$ for a dish and a converter box, but heck in the end it's free for life after that.
They used to be. I'm sure there are a few receivers out there they may still work but most of the common ones are now defunct after a recent lawsuit preventing its makers from producing any new patches.
I have a friend that has one and since the lawsuit it has been rendered defunct as the major dish networks regularly put out patches that restrict FTA box use. If the manufactures are not putting out patches regularly then they only good as a paperweight.
There are a number of radio networks available via Galaxy 19; a list of stations is available here: www.lyngsat.com/galaxy19.html Most of the English networks are patriot or religious in nature; plus a number of foreign language networks from around the world. There are other networks available on other birds; you can check out the other networks by going to Lyngsat free radio page.
Charlie at LDS owned Dish Network is a control freak; and does not believe people should be able to watch TV for free; his words.
