Found this radio at a garage sale last weekend, and picked it up for 5$. It came with the original warranty and everything. The box is beat but the radio is brand new. The guy prolly used it once, back in 1978. I put it to use and picked up an argument between some truckers on channel 22. They said they were going come to each others houses and kill each other. Was pretty funny... but my friend wasn't feelin' the radio as much as I was so we put it to rest. Maybe I'll throw it onto my boat but I'm afraid it'll get wet.
we had cb's in the boats for years. chances are you really only have a few controls.. squelch, vol, chnl, right? if you have anything bigger than a jon boat, just mount it under the fiberglass lip of the console or get a radio box (expensive). the salt air will eventually get to it. it wont live too long.
i used to easily pick up guys over 25 miles away yapping on the local rag chewing channel while in the boat.
I remember seeing radios like that back in the day at Walmart. That's probably a bit older than the ones I seen but they are usually fine in wet conditions. Worst case it gets water inside and acts funny until you dry it back out.
All my CBs became parts over the years since our hometown channel lost more and more people until the point of no one talking. So I just scrapped the RF transistors from them and those handy 2SC type mini transistors which work great for small projects. I probably have 5 or so old chassis of old rigs laying around that have all been scrapped for parts.
One of these days if I ever find a nice rig for the right price I may pick it up just for the fun of it.
