I've decided to shut down for a couple of days and move the antenna into the attic after all. While driving around today I was SHOCKED at how far my signal was getting. While I'm down I hope to get my RF guy over to take some measurements and check for harmonics. Of course, when I move the antenna I'll also be losing about 20' of cable. That will probably make up for the loss. Oh well.
So- there is a part 15 AM station and an LPFM station that have both got A LOT of media attention around here lately. I haven't decided if this is good or bad for me. It will either divert attention from me, or attract the feds to the area. I was looking at FCC actions today. I should never do that, it always gives me the willies.
While I'm down I'm going to work on some creative programing, and post some enigmatic flyers around U of L. That should generate some interest. We always walk that fine line of how to attract listeners while not telling anybody. Sure is a conundrum.
The other two stations are concentrating on local music. I'm hoping humor, old radio shows and local interest will attract an audience. Of course I also provide an oasis in the vast wasteland of commercial radio by playing uninterrupted music during the day. Heck, with my luck I'll get busted for copyright infringement instead of illegal broadcasting. I have also picked up another DJ who is going to provide some original programing that will give me something to broadcast in the evening. That should be cool.
