ok, i got one but it looks really un-official. i have a funny feeling its another pirate trying to scare me off my freq (yes, its that cluttered here) or its some hamtards that are known for playing radio cop.
are any of you brave enough to scan one you have gotten? go ahead and wipe out all the data, i just want to see the form and see if it matches what i got.
i dont want to call these guys if this is really not a real one.
I believe the FCC actually fills out a standard template called a NOUO (Notice of Unlicensed Operation) with your information on it and usually mails it to you as a first means of warning. It will have an address from where the letter was sent, tell you how many days you have to reply to the letter, a case number, and so on.
In the past the FCC has been known to send out cheesy warning letters but I think they all follow by the book now so your letter should appear much like the above ones. However I have never seen a printed version of the letter in real life and hope to never! So the printed version may differ some. If it lacks the agents name and a way to contact them then it probably is fake.
none of those look like what i got. in speaking with some other locals, it looks like the standard MO here is a warning to shut it off taped on your front door for the whole neighborhood to see. if you're an idiot and stay on, then they get angry and get serious. thats what i got from others around here that got popped.
sucks. im really ticked. we have a multitude of "urban" stations running hundreds, if not into the low thousands of watts playing ghetto rap chock full of cuss words and my 27w playing oldtime music gets snuffed. man im fumed.
Thanks for the head's up. I'm not on the list, yet! You have to be REALLY careful who you piss off, and yeah, Hams are the worst. We walk a very fine line: How do you get listeners when you can't tell anybody? I've posted some flyers at the local university, and have a lot of word of mouth. I've developed a couple of local businesses as "Friends" for 'drops'. I casually mention that so and so is a friend of the station and if they have any comments just stop by and talk to the owner. It works pretty good. So far all comments have been positive.
