Yeah, I'm turning it off after about a year of operation. I was pleased with the results. There were times I got out close to 10 miles with my little 15watt. I used a quarter wave on the roof and professional studio equipment. Heck, I had an RE-20 mic and a pair of really expensive Technics 'phones.
However, I was in the hospital for awhile, and when I got out it just wasn't as much fun. I've turned on my Ramsey 1/4 watt for background music around the apt. That takes care of the paranoia. I might even join that Part 15 website. (Don't worry, just kidding) This site has been both helpful and entertaining. I'm sorry to be leaving, but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. My 15 watt and antenna are stashed in the basement, with a bunch of other electronics so hey...ya never know. Good luck to all newbies and for the rest of you- keep on truckin' See ya, maybe!
Thanks- Don't worry, I'll keep checking in. Maybe I can help a newbie. Yeah, my gear is in plain sight in the basement, (Always the best hiding place), and who knows, I might watch "Pump up the Volume", and get all stoked up again. Right now I'm using my Ramsey for music around the house. It's fun- I can pause if someone comes to the door, don't have to worry abut "you know who", and since I don't have listeners, It doesn't matter. I'll admit I enjoyed putting together my "Silly Saturday" programs, but after some physical problems, it just got to be too much trouble. But hey- Ya never know...
Never say never, once in..your always in. Or as the song says.."Once Bitten Twice Shy". Either way, make more trips down to that basement for the heck of it and make sure that gear is in clear sight walking into that area...first thing to see...and soon enough...that itch will require a bit of scratching.
Peace.
