Hello, Right now, I'm broadcasting at 20 watts, in a high populated area, with a 1/2 dipole, it's fairly low to the ground as i live in a place with fairly low depth compared to the land around, so i'm only get 1-4 miles on each side, but i was wondering how much it would affect my coverage by moving my antenna to the attic of my house, it would be up a little bit higher, and not have too much in the way of my broadcast, your input would help, thanks.
Probably the biggest problem you would encounter is high interference to other equipment in the home. It may be necessary to lower that power level to prevent the interference.
Would it be possible to place the antenna on a short mounting pole attached to the side of the house near the edge of the roof at the highest peak point?
Having the antenna indoors, even in the attic, and at output power levels even in the 2 watt range can cause havoc to other RF devices and induce your signal onto the internal wiring of the home, quite possibly that wiring absorbing most of the signal your trying to push out the door so to speak.
The surrounding home structure would attenuate that signal, and if power were to be increased, that would only increase the interference factor and gain very little increase in coverage due to the home structure wrapped around the antenna in an attic.
This is not saying that it will not work. But it is saying that you will encounter a few issues that could work against the whole effort in the end. But its worth a try at least.
Peace!
