Well I have my SW transmitter almost built right up to the modulator and antenna matching network. Problem is I blew my IRF530 mosfet. Then I tried another mosfet and same problem. Even at 25 volts DC with no modulation when I tune up to the dummy load the fuse blows and so does the mosfet .
I could use just regular RF transistors like the MRF ones, but does anyone have any recommendations as to good high powered output transistors that are cheap (in case I ruin another one ) that work on an input power of around 1/2-1 watt for about 20-40 watts out?
This is a real bummer because I was hoping to make a broadcast on April 1st with 20 watts of power. I am sure I have the circuit designed right and the RF load and network is just fine. I tested it with another transmitter and it tuned up fine. Maybe my IRF Mosfets were duds I dunno. They came from a used circuit that someone else owned so I have no idea what they have been through.
Thanks for your opinions. I will upload some photos of my rig so far soon enough.
Well this project went back into time and now became parts again . Hey ideas don't work all the time. Oh well, I have better uses for the parts right now anyways.
Sounds like a classic case of too much junk in the waveform.
You'll want a perfect sine (or square or pulse if class-E). These things are notorious for going into MOSFET killing oscillations o rhaving insane leading edge peaks that poke holes in the gate.
