Hi - I'm new here. For the past 2 years or so I have been renovating a boat. See www.aboatformypotplants.blogspot.com and you'll see why and how, and that I knew nothing about boats when I was given one - and still know very little.
But since being invited by a friend (an ex-radio Lux DJ) to join him on his BBC Radio Essex show off the coast of Harwich to commemorate the closure of the real Pirate Stations of the '60s, I was hooked, lined and sinkered.
On that show I was "Barnacle Bill", reading out emails and dedications, and having some banter, and since then I wanted to do more radio.
My boat renovation is nearing fruition, and now it's time for me to begin preparations for my World's Smallest Pirate Radio Station.
I do not operate for profit and I do not wish to cause any offense, or indeed break any rules of this site - but I think I'm at the stage where I will be needing all the help I can get regarding technical and all sorts of radio-related issues.
So I hope it is okay for me to become part of this forum.
Hello All: I signed up because of the heading "worlds smallest" I'm pushing 7 Watts out of my basement and have a confirmed audience of over 400 people. With a radius of 5 miles, I think that I am the world's smallest station, prove me wrong. What is your listening audience? Sixer

I swear that's more than some commercial stations *cough*CBC*cough* with a 20 mile radius in a small town
Cheers!
As they say it's not the medium, it's the message. You play/talk about stuff that people are interested in and they will come.
Personally I have no way to confirm how many people have listened all together or even just the last time I did a show but I know there are definitely people who tuned in because there was a lot of talk around town about it. When we would use cell phones over the air they would start vibrating almost instantly once we gave out its number, so that went to prove.
Ya if you play what they want to hear they will keep coming back, and word of mouth is great. One shakin' house party and everyone is talking about "that station". CYNR 96.3fm "Sinner Radio". I am far enough from the city center so you can't pick it up in town, but come out to my neighborhood and every one is tuned in. I broadcast to a younger crowd, rock, heavy metal, a little rap crap etc. the selling point is always NO COMMERCIALS or ads, I just employed a sexy young voice to do station ID's for me. sixer
