I was working in my shop cutting flooring when a man came and knocked on my door asking for me by my name. He started to ask me about my station, thats when the word shit started screaming in my mind. He started to talk about the legalities of the radio station and copyright laws.
He asked if he could see the studio so I said sure. He asked how it all worked so I explained to him all of the devices. "I worked for the local cable company for 32 years before I retired, I must say this is awesome"
He's expressed his interest and I though I was being shut down. Joke was on me, but now I have someone with professional knowledge helping me out.
Hah awesome. I would be reluctant to let in anyone that wasn't someone I know w/o a warrant but then I am just paranoid like that. Good thing the person was on the right side. Always hate hearing stories about pirates getting busted by the FeeCee.
That's one of the funny things about radio, you just never know who is listening and most people would be surprised just how many hobbyist there really are out there who will take the time to track down a signal just for the hunt not necessarily always with bad intentions in mind.
In fact in all honesty if I heard a local pirate on FM, or even an unknown part 15 operator and I was bored enough I would probably track down the signal just out of curiosity but would never knock on their door or even let anyone know I found them. Not everyone is as friendly as you when they open that door
By the way I hope you got his name also and a bit of trustful info out of him. There have been cases where people acted friendly like that only to turn around and file a report after they leave.
Reminds me of a visit to my station back in the late 80's by a fellow broadcast engineer who knocked at the door and asked to make a request! Soon after that, he fired up his own little power house and later we linked both stations up to form a two-station network.
Ahh the good ol days!
Peace!
