Hi It's a long time since I joined this site. I've been concentrating on getting a motor for my boat, and now I have one.
So my energy is now on starting up my World's Smallest Pirate Radio Station, and I think I'm going to need, and be grateful for, all the help I can get from people who know much more than I do. Any suggestions are gratefully received.
My intention is to use an iPod type FM transmitter to 'broadcast' to the good people of Wivenhoe Quay, sitting at the tables of the local pub - about 50 feet or so from my boat.
I finally managed to get my renovated ex-Norfolk Broads river cruiser out onto the river, and now I can turn my attention back to my ambition to have the World's Smallest Pirate Radio Station, broadcasting to the tables of the pub on the quayside, just a few feet away, from the cabin of my Boat For My Potplants.
I have enlisted the help of our 'official' local radio station, who have all the officialdome in place concerning PRS and PPL, and this week I'll be checking out some technical issues - such as 'does it work?'.
My buddy and real ex-pirate and Radio Lux dj Mark Wesley has agreed to join me on my first, and possibly last, Barnacle Bill Show on my World's Smallest Pirate Radio Station on August 17th. You can listen, and see more details, on my blog at www.aboatformypotplants.blogspot.com.
I welcome any advice, except from my missus, who thinks I'm bonkers.
I was down at the boat last night, checking out the equipment for next Friday's daftness. Unfortunately the iPod FM transmitter didn't work very well, until I put it on to one of the pub's central tables on the quay. But to get the signal to it, I had to connect it to an iPhone picking up the signal from the boat via the internet. Does that count as 'pirate' radio?
No, that counts as Part 15 legal broadcasting, albeit even with less power than can be had with something like even a Ramsey transmitter or one of those C. Crane FM transmitters that put out maximum legal part 15 power.
Seriously if this is gonna be all about your ipod transmitter you really should upgrade to something that can at least get a reasonable signal out to some listeners.

With hat toffed to Mi Amigo, I've added a name to my Boat For My Potplants, in readiness for this Friday's Barnacle Bill Show on The World's Smallest Pirate Radio Station. By using an iPod transmitter, it is surely the 'smallest', but it's also going to be on the internet from my blog www.aboatformypotplants.blogspot.com
It's my first time on any thing like this - but I think I'm already hooked.

Hundreds of people turned up. Lots of money was raised. I think I heard Mark Wesley (proper Radio Lux dj) muttering "Never again", as he left the boat.
When I was originally given this lovely old wreck of an ex-Norfolk Broads cruiser to renovate, I never envisaged this madness going on.
To cap it all, a specially made jingle was commissioned, at great expense I'll have you know, and it can be heard on my blog www.aboatformypotplants.blogspot.com
