I was just about to go broadcast the weather over my radio station today, and as i stepped out my door the big SUV with antennas covering the roof pulled up. I read the side of the vehicle and it said "Industry Canada" I knew exactly what this meant.
The man introduced himself as an inspector from Industry Canada, handed me his card and asked me some questions.
I told him my name, everything I was doing, and was completely cooperative. I showed him my studio, equipment, and told him everything I had done, was doing, and what my plans were.
He said he found the radio station just doing some routine work in the area tuning into the local radio stations he found 90.3. He said he loved the music but that I would have to cease broadcasting and handed me my form.
I was not asked to sign anything, he didn't ask to take the equipment, or anything.
I found the inspector to be a decent guy. He even admitted to playing with pirate radio when he was a kid.
As for now I'll be offline, maybe i'll get a license down the road, but not for now. I
Reminds me of the visit I got back in 92 down in West Texas. Operating 100 percent home brew gear and home brew 3 bay dipole antenna system, the field engineer had made the comment that my signal was clean compared to the licensed stations splattering garbage all over the dial and spectrum. So I replied.."why are you messing with me then?". I thought I had seen a little smile in that field inspectors face after asking that question..as if almost it was some kind of inside thing going on, something to giggle and "wink wink" about.
Peace!
