Thought I'd introduce myself. I am a long time pirate. Started out with a 100 watt AM transmitter a long time ago! Right now I'm running a HLLY 15 watt FM into a 5/8 GP antenna I built myself. BTW, if you get one of those, it's a really good idea to cut an opening in the top and add a 2nd fan, bigger than that piece of crap that comes with it. If you don't, your output transistor won't last 2 hours at 15 watts I live in a small town in central Indiana. I am 56 yrs old, married, no kids or grandkids here, but we have 4 cats and 3 dogs, rescues from all over. I am a FCC licensed radio tech since 1976, I work mostly on repeaters and cell towers. I am also A+ certified, worked on computers since 1980. I love my job cause it's just me and the outdoors. I NEVER climb towers, tho. Leave that to the younger guys. I also just got my General class Ham license. I talk some on 2 meters and 440, but don't have the money to get into the HF bands. I've been a radio nut since I was 8, when I rigged an old walkie-talkie to an antenna I made out of an old fishing pole and talked 8 miles. I built an AM station in 1972 when I was in High school, our transmitter was 1/2 mile from the High school, so we had a great audience. I've been broadcasting on the internet for 3 years full time, but it's just not the same... our web site is www.420fm.net we have people streaming music from different locations to here, where we can handle up to 1,000 people online, and we can also broadcast any of the 3 stations on FM. We also do unauthorized broadcasts of NFL, NASCAR, and anything else we find interesting. Hey, might as well be an intellectual pirate, too!! Got a Sirius/XM connection, 1.5TB of music. We're working on a 5 element yagi to beam our signal into downtown, we're on the Eastern edge of town, and with 12-15 dB of gain, should get out nicely. Damn thing is 9 feet long, and almost 5 feet tall (going vertical). I enjoy building and experimenting with antennas. well, its time to go to work. It's nice to get paid to do what I love!
