A friend of mine and I usually have the craziest conversations as possible. Some would say what we talk about is bizarre, insane or down right funny! Well eventually the conversation got serious about my FM Station's range issues. Every time I turn on the 2KW Amp the bird in my neighbor's window across the way goes crazy. I found out that the cage gets VERY HOT but I can't let that ruin my day -the show must go on for the 6 hour slot! (Joking) The issue is wanting some extra height but the factor of being noticed with an antenna is rather unattractive. We discussed the variables of what I can and can't do here. In that time I mentioned the huge difference of what 10ft does to the FM 88-108mhz distance is. OH! yes my friend has a dam name & that would be Stephen (Steve)
Steve asked how much coax I have and my answer was 100ft or so. He has seen the simple , light and effective 1/2 wave antenna. He tried to throw in some nutball ways until one of them actually stuck as a great idea. Steve tried to turn it into a joke. He suggested I go buy a helium tank at the party store and attach a balloon to the antenna. "THATS IT!" I said. That is actually a great dam idea in many applications. Helium is VERY cheap and you can buy refillable or buy many BIG Balloons. Even a single weather balloon is $20 and just combining the issues to see which balloon and use heavy fishing line to anchor the antenna 'down' under the balloon(s). This is perfect for Ham festivals, portable mobile applications, Temporary or special events this is perfect!
One would pay good $$ for Masts or to hook it up to a pole etc. What about areas where you CAN'T like at a Flea Market or something? With some simple thinking one could get the advantage over 70, 80, 100ft or more! On a roof of an apartment or outside any window. Simply when your done you can just pull it down and unhook your anchors. The places and applications are limited by ones imagination! SO, what do others think and suggestions do you have too?
P.S. Also a great way to charge your cellphone on a stormy day too! lol
