AN OAP cancer survivor has been prosecuted for setting up a radio station to support fellow sufferers. Brian Barfoot, 70, of St David's Way, Wickford, appeared at Basildon Magistrates Court last Friday, August 8, to admit broadcasting from a pirate radio station. He insisted he had only created the station to offer advice and support for men with cancer, claiming there was a bias in the media towards women's charities.

'I love radio so much I built my own station' A story about Jon Sketchley from the Leicester Mercury newspaper in the UK. He's not a pirate now, but was inspired by the North sea pirates of the 60's. He also briefly tinkered on FM with a home built transmitter, but his father threw it out because it was illegal. He is the founder of Hermitage FM a community station in Leicester. It's an interesting read.

This is not about Pirate Radio, but rather about the behaviour of a licenced station in the UK, BOB FM. BOB FM have decided to ban music by Scottish artists because Scotland is having a Referendum on their independence. Their remarks are outright raciest against the Scots. Calling them an "ungrateful bunch of whiskey swigging, haggis munching caber tossers". Have a read.... radiotoday.co.uk/2014/09/bob-fm-bans-all-scots-calls-them-tossers/

On April 23rd 2014 I posted an article about Rage FM a Taunton UK based Pirate.
The station was featured because it had just been raided by Ofcom. Well they went back on the air and have just been raided again. Ofcom cited the usual bull about interference etc (yawn). A spokesperson for Rage stated that “Their claims of interference to emergency services radios and anti-social behaviour are generalised to say the least and no such evidence exists in our case.”
He added: “However, Rage FM will not go away and we will take it all the way to make a stand against these monsters." I like his turn of phrase, "Monsters" that sums them up alright.
