I have a SainSonic AX-05B (CZH-05B Modified). I'm looking for 1/4 to 1/2 mile maybe a mile from a rubber duck or inside antenna. It sometimes causes harmonics and sometimes does not per my scans from 2Mhz all the way through the FM band. I have heard about the C. Crane mod, but don't know if that would get me at least 1,000 feet to a quarter mile like the SainSonic does but minus the harmonics at times. My friend wants to know how big the C. Crane is and rather there is room to put a surface mount amp in it so he needs to know the dimensions when you take it apart. Or should he find a project box big enough for the PC board and put an amp in that and be good to go with a BNC connector in the back of the amp to connect to an antenna? I'm looking for somewhere around 600 mW to just shy of a watt and minus all the spurs and harmonics. There most likely will be a filter between the amp and the transmitter circuit. Would the Whole House 3.0 be easier to work with? How was that transmitter on secret high power mode (Hold down cycle+mute till you see a lightning bolt. I have heard on high that it puts out 310 mW so how does that out do. Plus can you tell me what the MW is on the C. Crane is once you turn the pot up. Also rather there is any room inside the case to maybe add mods to the board?
