Occasionally a RF attenuator is required, especially when feeding an Intermediate or High Power RF amplifier. Below is a very good website where you can find a nice set of RF Tools and calculators to determine the values of components required to fabricate your own when a 'ready made' attenuator of the correct value isn't readily available.
I have built a few of these using carbon film resistors and they give very satisfactory results. If exact value resistors are very often unavailable, simply use a value as close as possible to the value given. Always use resistors with a high enough wattage rating for the power to be dissipated. You may affix the resistors to a heat sink to aid in heat dissipation. It should be noted that you should NEVER use 'wire-wound' resistors when building attenuators.
