I have always wanted to hear a pirate on the 13 meter shortwave band but my ratshack DX398 isn't real sensitive on those upper frequencies using a longwire antenna. Maybe some day I will put up a dipole cut to that frequency to see what I can pull in.
Borderhunter had something going on with his audio, either rf getting into the audio chain, or perhaps he was just too close to the mic. Here he is a while ago, sounding much better:
As far as antenna's go, I've been real happy with my horizontal full wave 80 meter loop. I use it on the 10-80 meter ham bands, and chasing pirates & numbers stations and it does a great job at only about 25 ft up.
I have talk to the Borderhunter yesterday! The frequention was 3905kHz in AM mode. Sometimes we making music A round this frequention and sometimes we make A QSO. On the band 6200 – 6500kHz we do the same, the frequention 6300kHz is A very popular frequention. So if you want to joy buld A Grenade(10Watt – Mode AM) or something similar. A good antenna wood be Ainverted V 2X 11…12mTr with A 50oHms coax feding line. 10 Watt AM on A good day Chan be good for the half world around with conditions!
Many success to you all! RadioRob from the Netherlands.
