I googled this and the only results I got was from our own forum lol so I have to ask would RG6 CATV cable work good? Currently I use RG8/U and it works good but I was thinking for remote broadcasts I could easily tune up to 75ohm coax and use RG6 in a pinch.
Curious if anyone else here has experimented with 75ohm quality coax for the FM broadcast band and what your results were. My RF amp I designed to match most loads so it should take 75ohms just fine. I don't currently own a bundle of RG6 but thinking of shopping around and getting 50-100 feet considering how cheap it is for double shielded high quality coax compared to the cost of more RG8/U or RG8/X 50ohm cable.
I suppose I could experiment with a few tens of feet I have laying around the place but really curious to here other peoples opinion first.
i wouldn't waste the time on RG6. even your rg58/u is better than rg6 for this application. i would recommend LMR400 as a minimum for VHF FM and higher. i have used RG6 with a dipole and a CATV modulator. replaced it with LMR400 and the results were improved tremendously. even RG8x worked better than RG6. it's good for OTA, CATV, and, satellite receive applications but appears to suck for transmission purposes.
just my opinion. spend a few bucks more on LMR400. you won't regret it.
